The majority of bridges are getting to an age where they require basic renovation. Due to limited funds, renovations are often postponed, which increases the number of bridges that are in poor condition year by year. Based on inspection results, bridges are divided into four condition categories: good, fair, poor and very poor. A bridge in good condition is as good as new or it has aged normally. A fair bridge features some deficiencies and damage, but the basic renovations can still be postponed. A bridge in poor condition presents clear damage that require basic renovation. The bridge should be repaired without delay. A bridge in very poor condition is damaged to an extent that jeopardises traffic safety. The bridge should be repaired immediately.
