Gritting sand must be removed:

  • From population centres and pedestrian and bicycle ways immediately once the snowless period stabilises in April. Removal is repeated as necessary. Gritting sand must not cause any risks for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
  • Highways and main roads as well as rest and parking areas must be cleared of gritting sand by 30 April.
  • Other paved roads must be cleared by 15 May.

After the removal of gritting sand in the spring, paved areas are cleaned in accordance with the approved quality requirements until the next antiskid season.

In population centres, removal is carried out, unless otherwise agreed, with collecting street sweepers equipped with water-sprayers; brushing the sand to the side of the road is not allowed. In other areas, brushing the sand to the side of the road is allowed. Dry-brushing is prohibited in all areas.

Gritting sand is removed from steps, pedestrian and bicycle slopes and from around public transport stops once the snowless season stabilises in April. Traffic islands and other paved areas connected to roads are cleared of gritting sand in the spring.
