How do I know if I need a permit?

Article body content

Activities in a road area or buffer zone require a permit or statement from the ELY Centre or an agreement between the ELY Centre and the operator in question. ELY Centres are responsible for permit matters related to highways and special transport. More detailed information can be found on our website.

Road area = Primarily, road areas are staked out 2 metres from the outer edge of a ditch, ramp or trench.

Buffer zone = The buffer zone varies based on the administrative category of the road. For highways and main roads it is primarily 30 m, for motorways and semi-motorways 50 m and for regional and connecting roads 20 m from the centreline of the carriageway or, if there are multiple carriageways, the centreline of the nearest carriageway.
