The contractor will sign off on the termination of the work in several different situations. A final sign off can be given when the actions on the road have been completed or the actions are already in progress. The contractor may also sign off on a task when the action has been scheduled for a later date in accordance with the contract programme. This is often the case, for example, with work that involves mowing and clearance of coppices and the repair of lighting: The work is programmed in advance and carried out according to a set schedule. In these cases, the contractor will not go to the site separately to carry out the work.
The task is also signed off when the contractor comes to the conclusion that there is no need for action. For example, the contractor may find that the quality requirements set for the road are met and no action is required. Detailed quality criteria have been defined, for example, for gravel roads (maximum number of potholes, how much dust can rise from the road, etc.)
It must also be noted that weather conditions will often impact timetables for the implementation of maintenance work. It is possible that the completion of maintenance work will have to wait for a more favourable weather conditions A gravel road that is, for example, too wet or too dry cannot be levelled, as levelling would only make the situation worse.
