There are both state-maintained and municipality-maintained walking and cycling routes along state roads. In city centers, the municipality often maintains both its own walking and cycling routes and those owned by the state. You can check the maintainer of the walking and cycling routes along the roads on the Suomen Väylät -map.

This link to Suomen Väylät -map has the layers "walking and cycling routes" enabled, which draws a pink line on the road where there is a walking and cycling routes along the road. Additionally, the "maintenance contract" map layer is enabled, indicating that the road is maintained by someone other than its owner. Please note that the data may be incomplete in some parts if the latest maintenance contracts have not been updated in the registry.
How to interpret the map:
- Maintenance responsibility belongs to the state (ELY Center) if no other line than the pink one is visible at the location.
- If there is also a yellow line at the location, the walking and cycling route is maintained by the municipality.
- If a blue line is visible on the map, the walking and cycling route on the municipal street network is maintained by the state (ELY Center).
Maintenance refers to the daily upkeep of the routes, such as snow plowing, slush removal, removal of gravel in spring, or leaf sweeping in autumn.
If the walking or cycling route is maintained by the state (ELY Center) according to the map, you can leave feedback about maintenance deficiencies via the Palauteväylä - Feedback Channel.
Feedback on walking and cycling routes maintained by the municipality should be given directly to the municipality.
Please note that the walking and cycling route marked with a pink line on the map are mostly state-owned. This means that resurfacing or other structural work is the responsibility of the ELY Center.
